LED the Way
Fact
Light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs are incredibly energy efficient and unlike their counterparts, compact fluorescent lights (CFL), they don’t contain mercury. You can now find LED bulbs for almost any lighting need in your house.
Get Started
- When purchasing strings of lights or flashlight, go for the LED alternative. They save energy and are perfect for directional light.
- Make sure to recycle any CFLs you replace with LEDs because of their mercury content.
- Like dinner by candlelight? New LED candles have the look of a real flame without burning wax or needing to be replaced after just a few uses.
Become a Pro
- Have a “toss that bulb” party where your guests bring their old incandescent bulbs for recycling and are given LED lights as replacements.
- Buying a gift that involves lighting? Make sure to choose products that use less energy, like LED lighting.
- Encourage your office to use LED lights for desk lamps and other directional lighting.

Sounds good! LEDs are truly making their way in some homes. They are such efficient and can reach such full glow in a bit of seconds. But one question enters my mind, do this LED can surpass the energy efficiency the CFLs offers, or is there such a possibility that CFLs will be phased out because of this LED lamps? Moreover, do LEDs come in a higher wattages like the ratings of CFLs? What are the drawbacks at least?

one of the advantages mentioned for led bulbs and not mentioned much is the fact they suppoedly wont attract insects usually drawn to lights. this could be a big selling point ( if it is true) especially for persons seeking to minmize the # of alate( winged) formosan termites attracted to their homes

Thank you for informing the public of the benefits of LEDs. Please do take into consideration the raw materials required for the various colors available (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light-emitting_diode#Colors_and_materials). No-toxic film can be used to change the simple white LED’s color.
One other point of note in this campaign is that individuals with Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome are sensitive to the hertz rate (flicker) of fluorescent bulbs (and CRT monitors/tv sets). Exposure can trigger seizures in severe cases. Consider how many public spaces are lit by fluorescents and how important this campaign is to people such as myself.
