Show Off That Mug

Fact

If you use one disposable coffee cup per day, it creates 23 pounds of waste per year. To prevent this, try reusable mugs for coffee or tea that eliminate the need for disposable cups.

Get Started

  • Purchase a reusable mug or cup that matches your personal style. You’ll feel both green and trendy!
  • Search around for the perfect fit. Reusable containers come in many forms including stainless steel, aluminum and hard plastics.
  • Make sure to follow cleaning directions to get the most out of the container. A reusable cup is only useful if you reuse it!

Become a Pro

  • Talk about a great gift! A stylish SIGG or Klean Kanteen bottle will show your friends, and your planet, that you know what they’re about.
  • Try to find a green coffee shop near you that will not only fill up your mug, but also recycles and institutes sustainable practices .
  • Know an avid coffee drinker?  A gift certificate to their favorite coffee house placed inside a reusable mug is a fine way to say good morning!

    Attention retailers!!!!
Please do not squabble about how many ounces are in my mug and what to charge me. You are saving the cost of the cup and lid. Many of you keep your coffee inventory by the number of cups, but you can get an accurate count with the number of bags of coffee you go through. This idea offers you many marketing opportunities to bring more people in the door offering small discounts for those using their own cups. which over time will increase your coffee sales and over all sales through the additional traffic in your store. In short time you’ll save many dollars on cups and trash removal as well. Get on board, it’s no additional work for you or your staff and economically and environmentally beneficial.

I have worked as a barista and love, love, loved my peeps who brought their own mug. It is easy for a barista to fill these up.

If you want hot drinks I would suggest going with stainless steel though. Consider a spill-proof lid as well. Better safe than sorry with hot stuff.

Have used travel mugs and travel water bottles for years, the convenience stores/gas stations in Illinois have a refill button they use to charge for travel mugs. Talked to one store manager, and they are happy not to have to figure out what size, what type and see a disposable cup go out the door.

My husband used to grumble at me about not wanting to buy bottled water, etc. Now, he’s even an avid bottle and mug reuser!
Moral to the story: Try it. It’s easier as well as better for us and the environment :-)

I am having major problems finding a travel mug which is not plastic and not made in China. Does anybody know where I can find a steel travel mug not made in China?

    Wilfrid,
I checked at madeinusa.com. Did a search for “steel travel mug”–0 results. Did a search for “steel mug”–0 results. Did a search for “steel”–over 13,000 results, but didn’t have time to peruse the list for a company that might make mugs. :>)

Earth911, will you help w/ finding a US company that makes steel items & “encourage” them to make steel travel mugs? I was extremely disappointed to see that my Stanley steel travel mug was made in China :>(. Stanley used to be made in the US…
