Join the EcoFlow Challenge

Let’s face it: Sometimes, there’s nothing better than a warm shower to wash the day away. But that luxurious habit has a price as well.

According to Waterpik, typical showerheads can use upwards of 18,000 gallons of water per year – and that’s if only two, 10-minute showers happen in your household daily.

Wasting water is just as much an eco-faux pas as not recycling a plastic bag. Earth911 and Water Pik are teaming up to promote smart, water-saving habits around the home, especially when it comes to your daily shower.

Waterpik gave away 35 EcoFlow showerheads to Earth911 Newsletter subscribers. The winners were asked to submit their honest feedback about the showerheads – here’s what they have to say:

Real, Honest Feedback from our Winners

“I tried the Waterpik showerhead. I was surprised by how strong the water pressure was. The pressure was great and the different settings were easy to switch between. I also liked the pause option. It was a great shower!” – J.Travis
“I LOVE the Waterpik EcoFlow showerhead! When I hear about water-saving gadgets, I usually think of the King of the Hill episode when Hank installs low-flow toilets in his house, but he ends up flushing more & wasting water. This showerhead is different! It has 5 settings (the mist setting reminds me of rain) but the greatest feature is the water pause! It decreases the flow of water while shampooing or doing whatever else! If you want to save water, the EcoFlow showerhead is for you!” – J.Senter
“I was impressed with the Waterpik EcoFlow for most of its features with exception of the “pause” feature. The “pause” feature does not actually pause the water, it just reduces it to which I was very disappointed, this feature should be renamed so it is not misleading. Other than that it is a nice shower head and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to save a little extra water.” -M.Dooley
“My husband was able to install the showerhead in minutes with no problems. I enjoy the large surface area & different spray settings. But, I have problems using the pause control one-handed because I end up rotating the whole showerhead instead of just the control. A push button would’ve been better(that’s what my old one has). I also think the showerhead is a little heavy, the hose isn’t flexible enough, & it’s difficult to put back into the cradle. Overall I rate it 3 out of 5.” -H.Zimmerman
“I like the Waterpik Ecoflow chrome showerhead and would give it a rating of 4 (5 being top). The showerhead was easy to install and seems attractive. The settings range from misting to a wide flow gentle massage. The amount of water is less than a full flow showerhead, but perfectly adequate. I briefly tested the spray-control lever to stop the water while shaving-water stayed warm when I switched the flow back on. I’ll use this feature more in the summer months when the bathroom isn’t so cold!” -B.Young
“The shower head works great! Pressure is a little less than a normal head but the variety of spray settings helps and it’s definitely worth it to be saving so much water!! I love the water pause feature but wish that it was a little more drastic of a change since it still seems like quite a bit of water to be running while shaving, etc. Overall, I’m very happy with it and would definitely recommend it!” -A.Charland
“Installation of the showerhead was a dream, it actually took longer to uninstall the old one than it took to install the new one. I didn’t even need to use teflon tape! The showerhead is exceptional in appearance and function. Water pressure was very good and all of the settings performed equally well. The water saving spray-control feature works very satisfactorily and I anticipate that I will notice a savings on my water bill.” -R.Zaccano
“I would rate the showerhead a 4 out of 5. My water pressure was reduced after installing the showerhead, but the different spray features and portability make up for that. I would recommend to friends and family!” – A.Justice
“The Waterpik EcoFlow water-saving showerhead is very easy to install and it delivers a lovely shower experience. The adjustable spray provides the right number of settings to insure a comfortable shower that uses as little water a possible. My family is committed to conserving water and the EcoFlow showerhead is helping us one shower at a time! I will recommend this product to family and friends.” -C.Stewart
“I’ve only been able to use the showerhead for one day, but so far I love it! It was waiting for me when I arrived back home after a vacation on Sunday. I desperately needed a shower after traveling for 14 hours and just decided to jump right and install it. Installation was fast and the shower was great! I’m a renter, so now I’ll just have to be careful not to leave it behind when I move out.” :) -K.Szczepanek
“4 out of 5. Being taller I like the fact that the handle is long which raises the shower head higher and allows the water to flow down on you. It would be great if it had one setting that had full (non water saving) pressure so you can rinse your hair quicker, as I have long hair. Otherwise I love it! And would recommend to others.” -A.Parise
“I haven’t used it for very long but overall it meets my expectations fairly well. The biggest problems were that it did not seem to fit into the holder well (perhaps it was designed for installation on a shower arm at a different angle than ours) and that it is taking a while for the hose to straighten out. I would give it a 4 out of 5 and probably recommend it to my friends.” -G.Hogan
“The Waterpik showerhead has positives & negatives. I like the variety of spray patterns, like the massager for my back, & that I can decrease the flow while soaping up. But to slow the flow, my face is in the spray because I need both hands to turn the dial. The water goes in every direction but down when I use the outermost spray settings, & it doesn’t work well in a small shower stall. There should be a way to angle the unit to direct water downward. Overall, I wouldn’t keep it.” -A.Martin
“I’ve owned low-flow showerheads in the past & this is by far the most impressive. The water pressure isn’t diminished & I never have to stop & restart my shower again with an uncomfortable burst of cold water. I’ve made so many changes to live sustainably & this is by far the easiest change I’ve made. My husband installed it in about 5 minutes & we were off & running – literally! Will I recommend this product? You bet & I’m going to purchase a few to give away to employees for Earth Day.” -A.Witmer
“I installed the Waterpik EcoFlow showerhead a few days ago, & it took a little getting used to. I tried each setting with water-saving mode on & off. I noticed two main things: The pressure from my old showerhead was terrible, making my showers last longer & When I turned the water off at the end of my shower, there was not a gallon of water in the bottom of the tub I give the new showerhead a 5 for efficiency, effectiveness & more time hitting the snooze button in the morning!” -L.A.Popelka
“My family has gotten to try the showerhead for a few days now. Overall, I would rate the Waterpik EcoFlow showerhead at just a solid 3. The pros are that it looks great, is lightweight and easy to install. Also, the pause-control works wonderfully, and it easily adjusts to various spray settings. However, the full-body spray setting IS just “okay” – it could be better with more force, and I found the extra spray settings to be generally too wimpy.” -J.Kowalski
“Great selection of sprays since my hubby and I like different sprays. The turn off feature is great for shaving legs and the water isn’t ice cold when I return. Wish the tubing were 1 foot longer to help with bathing kids and pets, though.” -D.Rowan
“I recently installed a Niagara Earth low-flow showerhead, so I had a good point of comparison. The pros: the showerhead is easy to install & the flow-reducing adjustment is my favorite feature. The cons: I didn’t find much value in the alternative spray functions & the Waterpik price seems to be 3x higher than the Niagra. My overall rating is a 3.75 / 5. It’s really not much of a “sacrifice” – after a day or two of showering with a low-flow showerhead, you won’t miss the old models.” -J.Goldstein
“So, I just installed the shower-head, and I think it’s great. The different spray types are neat, and it’s nice being able to use it as a “hand shower.” I am also a huge fan of the “pause mode,” which lets you reduce the water flow down to about 1/3. This is useful for lathering up, as you don’t need the full flow, but if you just shut off the water, it can get cold. Definitely a worthy investment, and it can help save just that much more water.” -P.Perkins
“The “pause” feature is both my most and least favorite function of the showerhead. I love the functionality but you have to reach up with both hands to turn it which is hard to do when you’re short. Overall I think its a great product.” -M.Lasota
“I really wasn’t sure how well the Waterpik shower head would work, only because I have had previous ones that did not perform so well. I am pleased to say that it worked wonderfully, and its a bonus that it is efficient!! If my friends & family knew how well a water saving device could work I think they would be more willing to give it a shot. Trust me, after trying it I will convince them! Kudos to Waterpik on a great product!” -C.McLellan
