The lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer may be coming to a close soon, but there are still a few weeks left to enjoy the season in the sun. What better way to do that than to craft something that will help you enjoy the great outdoors even more? Check out these five fun ideas:
1. Land art
Using twigs, pinecones, leaves, fallen petals and more, kids (or adults!) can make a masterpiece using only what’s on the ground. The picture shown was created by second-graders, who put photos of their artwork on note cards.
2. Sea glass wind chimes
You’ll feel summery all year long with these beachy wind chimes, which serve as a nice memento of your vacation — or inspiration for a future one.
3. A simple tent
Just like indoor forts made out of sheets and pillows, there’s something magical about an outdoors tent. These cute A-frame ones can be crafted from materials you already have, providing hours of entertainment for a minimum investment.
4. Solar-powered chandelier
The inside of your house isn’t the only place that deserves beautiful lighting fixtures. As it starts getting darker sooner, you need more light outside — and an elegant chandelier powered by solar energy is just the way to add a little ambient light to the patio or backyard.
5. Pallet puppet theater
It’s showtime! A languishing pallet, old kitchen curtains, chalkboard paint and a little ingenuity combine to create this absolutely adorable puppet theater, perfect for little kids with big imaginations.
(Wondering if it’s safe to reuse a pallet? We answer that question here.)
