If you’re single this Valentine’s Day, a new report is here to help you figure out where you’ve got the best shot at eco-friendly love. Why date with your potential mate’s green habits in mind? It can be difficult to get your spouse on board with eco-friendly living, so finding one who’s already on the same page will give you some common ground.

“People care so much about the planet that they tend to be more caring, thoughtful, kind, honest people,” says Jill Crosby, CEO of GreenSingles.com and founder of the Conscious Dating Network. “They’re not the kind selling out to corporations — they’re more thoughtful and responsible in relationships, too.”

How the States Stack Up

Interesting Findings

Here’s what the report found:

  • Coastal states are where it’s at. With the exception of Nevada, the top 10 states for green dating all have coastline.
  • The big winner is Oregon. The Pacific Northwest state ranked high in every category, with plenty of singles in the dating pool and lots of green living options. “Eco-friendly people draw eco-friendly people,” Crosby says. “I’ve lived all over the country, but when I got the chance to live in Oregon, I jumped at it because I’d always wanted to live in a place that was so welcoming to that ideology.”
  • Oklahoma, Alaska and Wyoming aren’t as great. These three states round out the bottom, but that doesn’t mean eco-friendly singles can’t thrive there — you might just have to work a little harder to find likeminded people.

To create the report, Amigo Energy looked at U.S. Census data to determine which states had the most single residents, then combined that data with green dating insights from the U.S. Department of Energy, Gallup and The Vegetarian Resource Group.
