SAN FRANCISCO – On March 26, 2011, the famous Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco powered down its lights in celebration of Earth Hour, an annual event sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund to promote climate change awareness and energy conservation.

A record 134 countries shut down their lights at 8:30 p.m. local time for this year’s Earth Hour.

“This year’s event has illustrated without question what can be achieved when people unite with a common purpose and rally to action,” said Andy Ridley, co-founder and executive director of Earth Hour.
