Addicted to Plastic has been making the rounds at film festivals since its 2008 release and racked up awards in Amsterdam, Mexico City, Paris and Vancouver, among others. It was filmed over three years in 12 different countries, including two trips to the middle of the Pacific Ocean where plastic debris accumulates. The film details plastic’s history over the last 100 years and provides expert interviews “on practical and cutting edge solutions to recycling, toxicity and biodegradability. These solutions – which include plastic made from plants – will provide viewers with a new perspective about our future with plastic,” according the the film’s site.

The film will air on April 28 at 10 p.m. Eastern and Pacific time. Also airing during season three of The GREEN:

  • Carbon Cops—a reality series where families conduct an energy audit and commit to reducing their environmental footprint by 50 percent
  • Eco Trip: The Real Cost of Living—a life cycle analysis of different consumer products and their eco-impact from production to disposal, which will cover everything from cell phones to light bulbs to paper napkins in season three
  • e² design—a six-episode series narrated by Brad Pitt that explores the field and key players of sustainable architecture

The new season of The GREEN debuts on April 21 to coincide with Earth Day.
