The Orlando Magic and Waste Management have partnered on a recycling initiative to promote waste minimization at Amway Arena by providing designated recycling areas for fans at home games.
The two-year partnership will include a program with the City of Orlando/Orlando Venues to place recycling receptacles inside Amway Arena. Additionally, a “Green Sweep” will take place at select games throughout the remainder of this season as well as during the 2009-10 campaign to help fans recycle. The “Green Sweep” will allow fans to go green without ever leaving their seat, as recyclable waste will be collected in specific sections of the arena by members of the JetBlue Crew during Orlando Magic home games.
The campaign will work with the Magic’s other main green initiative: to open the first LEED-certified basketball arena with the construction of the new Orlando Events Center.
“The Orlando Magic is undergoing a company-wide green initiative, which will be punctuated by having the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified designed and constructed professional basketball arena,” said Alex Martins, Orlando Magic COO. “This partnership with Waste Management is another step in the Orlando Magic’s organizational goal of reducing our overall carbon footprint and initiating environmentally friendly practices into team business operations.”
The new $380 million, 750,000-square-foot arena will become the home of the basketball team once completed in 2010.
