Species are going extinct at an accelerated and dangerous rate. The world is facing the greatest rate of extinction since we lost the dinosaurs more than 65 million years ago. Unlike past mass extinctions, our current extinction crisis is almost solely because of environmental changes caused by human activities.

Some of our activities — such as habitat loss, overfishing, the wildlife trade, and the spread of non-native species — directly affect species and ecosystems. Many other human activities have contributed to climate change and pollution, which have indirect but dire effects on diverse species.

With a nod to National Endangered Species Day (the third Friday of May), this quiz tests your knowledge about endangered species, loss of biodiversity, and the current extinction crisis.
