In addition to recycled CRT glass, Fireclay uses locally sourced glass from window and solar factories, contaminated glass from curbside recycling, internally produced scrap clay, pre-consumer granite dust and other recycled content.

The majority of Fireclay’s products are sourced and manufactured within a 500-mile radius, so building projects can receive LEED credits for regional manufacturing as well as for using materials containing high amounts of recycled content.

Burns says he hates waste and loves efficiency, so finding ways to reduce waste is often on his mind. And there’s no shortage of interesting creations that come from that process.

“Making products from recycled materials is always changing due to the change of waste streams,” Burns says. “New uses are sometimes found for landfill-bound waste materials. … Our mission is to find the best use for materials that need recycling.”
