Steel is an alloy metal, mainly consisting of iron. Varying the alloying elements in steel creates variations of hardness, ductility and tensile strength. The most common use of steel in most homes is in the kitchen and laundry room. Refrigerators, washers and dryers are most often made of steel. Also, the style of stainless steel has gained popularity over the past decade and can be found in many new or remodeled homes.
