Look, I realize air pollution is a problem and something that needs improvement. Even the auto industry realizes it and is clearly doing their part to make car emissions better for our environment. You need to understand there are other big factors that contribute to smog, like factories and trucks. That’s why it’s totally unnecessary to go around finger pointing at every car, SUV, small truck, van or even Smart Car you see turning around the corner. On second thought, you can point at Smart Cars or even snicker if you like. I do.

America has enjoyed a love affair with the automobiles for generations. Autos transformed our nation, have been part of our culture, given us freedom, and provided us a major form of transportation and yes, joy. Think where’d we be without them? I beg of you not to throw the whole wet blanket on this romance; save at least some of it for the real polluters. Now’s the time for us to get in the passing lane and cruise right by the auto industry as the blame for smog. Instead, why not hit the accelerator and look for some real big targets?
