We Earthlings

Product marketers do a good job of convincing consumers that purchasing new appliances and devices will improve our lives, but will they really? The energy that home appliances and electronic devices consume is responsible for a significant portion of our household’s carbon footprint — as much as 15%. While new household appliances will likely be more efficient than your old ones, consider that manufacturing new appliances creates a lot of carbon emissions. So, before you purchase a new electronic appliance or device, ask yourself:

  • Will it truly make my life easier?
  • Will it make my home less wasteful?
  • Will it reduce my energy consumption?
  • Do the efficiencies justify the upgrade?
