Every product has a story. The reasons products are created in the first place run the gamut – to make our lives easier, to make us healthier, to capitalize on a trend, simply to make money. The list goes on and on.
In the case of Molly’s Suds, its product story began in an unlikely place – one family’s personal tragedy. In 2005, Monica Leonard (a pediatric nurse and mother to three already healthy children) gave birth to a daughter – Molly. Molly never took a breath upon entering this world.
The determination to uncover what could have led to this tragedy drove Monica thereafter. Every free minute was spent researching what factors contributed to stillbirth. Through that research, Monica uncovered several shocking statistics.
- According to the National Toxicology Program, more than 80,000 chemicals are registered for use in the U.S. (these chemicals were approved by the Toxic Substances Control Act).
- Every year, approximately 2,000 additional chemicals are introduced into the consumer market. These chemicals appear in products such as personal care products, prescription drugs, household cleaners, lawn care products – even food.
- And yet, only 200 of these substances were tested for human safety.
These statistics coupled with results from a European study proving mothers pass chemicals to their babies via pregnancy and breast milk led to the creation of Molly’s Suds.
According to Molly’s Suds, we (consumers) think about what we eat but not about what we allow to touch our skin. Molly’s Suds set out to create laundry powder and other household products that are truly safe for humans.

Molly’s Suds Laundry Powder is comprised of five earth-derived ingredients – sodium carbonate sourced from the Green River Basin in Wyoming, sodium bicarbonate, magnesium sulfate(heptahydrate), unrefined sea salt and organic peppermint (mentha piperita) oil.
