Rosy Toes Designs had the privilege of gifting their handcrafted, eco-friendly Phone Wristlets to 2014 MTV Movie Awards Nominees & Presenters. Celebrities attending The Artisan Group (or TAG) exhibit at GBK’s Luxury Gift Lounge, held in an exclusive Beverly Hills location April 11-12, 2014, received Phone Wristlets in “Retro Daisy” and “Sweetheart Owl” designs.
Designed with love and sustainability in mind, every phone wristlet is “handcrafted from three layers of felted wool sweaters for durability and protection.” They’re outfitted with an extra pocket, ideal for stashing your ID, money, keys, or one of those terribly dehydrating Cashew Chew Lara Bars you’re always carrying around (and never eating). Best of all, these cases are designed to fit most smartphones, including your precious (and anti-green, insanely precocious) iPhone.
Owner/Designer Lucy Chapman is a fiber artist and designer who’s been repurposing wool beanies, hats and wrist warmers into tech accessories and bags since 2009. “I love working with reclaimed sweaters,” she stated. “One of my favorite parts of the creative process is going in search of the materials. Each sweater is a little different in terms of stitch, pattern and color so each piece is unique.”
Okay, so I’m not really crazy about the company’s name: Rosy Toes. It sounds like the name of sustainable socks and footwear hand woven from surplus corn, rose petals, and wood nymph tears. But I have to give Chapman and Rosy Toes props; their “Cherry Blossom” design is getting tossed in The Artisan Group’s (or TAG’s) Collaborative Gift Bag for Earth Day 2014. TAG’s Earth Day gift bag will be bestowed upon Hollywood’s most eco-friendly tree-hugging elite, including Jessica Alba, Emma Watson, Edward Norton, Adrian Grenier, Will.i.am, Robert Redford, Leonardo DiCaprio, Drew Barrymore, Woody Harrelson, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway … any liberal celebrity you suspect owns a Prius but secretly speeds through Malibu at 3 A.M. in an un-progressive, first world gas guzzler when nobody’s looking. #FirstWorldCelebrityProblems
Ready to get your cashmere paws on one of these adorable 3rd grade art project – er, sustainable tech luxuries? Awesome! Rosy Toes Designs retail for $38.50. They’re not my cup of tea, but I guess they’re appealing in a “Maurice Sendak-goes-Green” kind of way.
