Why Speaking Up Is Always Good

We’re all about sharing opinions and getting the word out here at Earth 911. That’s why this year’s World Environment Day motto, “Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level” resonates so well with us. The Earth, the present and the future are the “why” behind the call to action. After all, if we aren’t a voice for change, who will be?

“Planet Earth is our shared island, let us join forces to protect it,” said UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the launch of the 2014 International Year of Small Islands and Developing Countries. We are each a small island of influence, of good, of activism that can affect the world around us. With climate change at the center of this year’s World Environment Day, people are asked to engage in the discussion and do a little more day-to-day.

As always, we’re here to help you to make the world a better place. From cleaning up the shoreline in Sri Lanka to organizing a neighborhood cleanup, every action counts.

    1. This is very true, and the reason for the focus on islands this year. I recently heard an interview with Neil deGrasse Tyson who said that if all the ice caps melt, the water level would reach the elbow of the Statue of Liberty (the one that’s bent and holding the plaque. That’s mind-blowing and means that we would really have to change how we live our lives.
