Did you know that over 780 million people worldwide lack access to clean water and at least 2 billion people drink from a source contaminated with feces? Drinking this water can cause several potentially fatal diseases with a host of severe symptoms. Illnesses ranging from cholera to polio and typhoid fever can result from drinking dirty water.
According to the World Health Organization, contaminated drinking water causes more than 485,000 deaths a year from diarrheal diseases alone. They estimate that by 2025, half of the world’s population will be living in water-stressed areas.
The following infographic from Waterlogic highlights the regions worst affected by each disease and suggests actions to make bad water safe to drink — including one technology used in plumbed-in water dispensers.
