relax, girl

Staycations are becoming more popular for a multitude of reasons. Many people find that staying home and relaxing is easier and less stressful than going out and staying in a hotel, going to amusement parks or even going on a road trip. It’s also much cheaper!

Planning vacations can be especially trying if you have little ones that are coming along. It can be difficult to stay on their schedules when traveling. Instead of splurging on a big vacation this year, try planning a relaxing staycation instead! Stay home, relax, and still have a great vacation!

There are two ways to go about planning a relaxing staycation.

  1. You can stay at home the entire time (which is just fine) or,
  2. You can incorporate going out into your town to have fun. Getting out of the house without heading out of town will keep everyone happy.

It can also be fun to take day trips to other nearby cities that won’t require too much driving or staying in a hotel. No matter how far you choose to stray from home, here are four tips to consider when planning your next staycation.

Plan to relax

Schedule in time to relax. Take a nap, sit outside, have playtime with the kids without anything else on your schedule. Whatever you do to relax, pencil it in during your staycation — more than once! If you seem to have trouble relaxing at home, try a yoga class or meditation in the park. Pick up a new pair of yoga pants to add to the experience. There are many ways to relax while you are enjoying a staycation.

Soak up the museum culture

A good majority of towns have museums, and a good majority of people from those towns have never been to those museums. See what your very own city has to offer. Most of them will also have children’s programs that you can sign your little ones up for. Let them explore, have fun and learn new things without ever leaving your hometown.

Pick up a book

Reading is always relaxing, and it can even be educational. During your staycation, head to the library and pick up a few good books for you and your little ones. There may even be a summer reading program that you could participate in. The little ones are sure to love that!

Get outside

Go biking or go hiking — just get outside! There is no reason you have to stray too far from home. Head to a local park and hike around the trails for the day. Bring a little picnic and enjoy the simple life. No need to travel for a nice little day in the park before heading home to your regularly scheduled dinner and bed times.

Early checkout?  Now that is entirely up to you!
