One yard of silk requires 2,542 gallons of water. A gown takes eight to 10 yards of fabric — that’s up to 26,420 gallons of water you’re wearing depending on the cut of your dress. It’s wonderful to have a special gown of your own, but be aware the environmental cost of your choice. Givw your gown a second life by donating, saving it for later generations, or selling it. Making what you buy last is important step towards a sustainable life, and reducing the impact of your big day.
